How to get to Louvain-la-Neuve?
By air
Train
Car
Option 1
From Brussels Airport (Zaventem): Starting at 5:30 am, you can take a train to Louvain-la-Neuve. From 9:00 am to midnight, four trains per hour depart from the airport to Brussels-North station, where you need to change trains to continue to Louvain-la-Neuve (not to be confused with “Louvain”, which is the French name for Leuven, a different city). This service operates seven days a week.
Option 2
From Brussels South Charleroi Airport: This airport mainly serves low-cost airlines and is located 40 km from Louvain-la-Neuve. TEC buses run from the airport to Charleroi-South railway station. Trains to Ottignies run until 21:57, and from Ottignies you can take a connecting train to Louvain-la-Neuve-Université station in just eight minutes.
Louvain-la-Neuve-Université station is directly connected to the Ottignies junction on the Brussels-Namur line. There are two trains per hour in each direction, even at weekends. Important note Do not confuse Louvain-la-Neuve with “Louvain” (the French name for the Flemish city of Leuven), which is on a different railway line.
Train schedules are available on the Belgian Railway (SNCB) website.
★ Louvain-la-Neuve is about 30 minutes away from Brussels. You’ll have to change at Ottignies for the train to ‘Louvain-la-Neuve-Université’. Direct trains take longer.
★ If you are coming from Namur or Charleroi, change at Ottignies for the train to ‘Louvain-la-Neuve-Université’.
★If you are coming from Luxembourg, change at Ottignies (if you are taking the EC 96 Iris or EC 90 Vauban train from Switzerland, change at Namur for the train to Ottignies).
★ If you are coming from another country, change at Brussels-Nord. Alternatively, you can change trains at Brussels-Midi, from where there are trains to Ottignies via Brussels-Central, Brussels-Nord, Brussels-Schuman and Brussels-Luxembourg.
If you plan to travel by car, please contact Brigitte Ferauge ([email protected]) as you will need access cards for the parking facilities.
